Istanbul based piano duo.

From the 20th century music to the present...

SeSshin

SeSshinduo gets ist name and musical inspiration from Zen school. Just like the individual, by realizing the depths of his inner world gets rid of his dependences and find his way to freedom, the music of the 20th century started to question the sense and the deeds of listening by turning to itself, time and unmusical sounds and a new approach to music became possible through independence from stereotypical elements of Western Music.

SeSshinduo was found in 2019 to study and interpret 20th-century compositions for piano four-hands, which shed light on contemporary production and whose musical questioning are still valid.

Notes on Repertoire

SeSshinduo interprets the compositions of three friends, who are the prominent musical figures of the 20th century, inspire and are inspired from each other, and, if need be, harshly criticize each other: Debussy, Satie and Ravel.

While Debussy and Ravel were converging to impressionism, Satie turned to surrealism and deconstruction. Of the chosen compositions for piano four-hands, those of Debussy and Ravel make descriptions of nature through a childish and fabulous imagination, whereas those of Satie makes a satirical critique of the romantic style of impressionism and it’s from obsession.

tatavla'dan ada'ya

SeSshinduo, Art Nouveau döneminde 20. yüzyıl müziğinin öncüleri olmuş, üretimlerinde birbirlerinden beslenip esinlenen ve yeri geldiğinde birbirlerini en ağır şekilde eleştiren üç arkadaşın eserlerini yorumluyor: Debussy, Satie ve Ravel.
